“Together as Human” was the very first educational project of the
Leo club of university of Colombo which was held on 7th March 2016. The project was mainly
focused on donating library books and laboratory equipments to Kosgolla Maha
Vidyalaya in Badula. The school was situated in rural area in Uva province with
limited resources and 103 students were currently studying. Therefore the
Leo Club of University of Colombo has taken initiative to favor for this school.
At the outset we have arranged a pilot visit on 19th February 2016 with the President,
Project Chairman and two members. During the pilot visit we have
met the principal, staff, students and some of the parents. They were talk with
us and made out difficulties that they were suffering. After the
discussion with them we have got what they were truly want and realized what we
can do for them. While the journey some of the things were seen by our members.
The imported thing we have noted was the deficit of telephone connection and
requirement of the better dancing room. Therefore pilot visit was really
important for the success of the project.

With the better understanding of the pilot visit we have further
processed the project by donating library books and laboratory equipments. As
the part of our project we have mended the dancing room floor with concrete,
distributed stationary for all the students of the school, donated a telephone
connection (Lanka bell) and donated sports equipment's. Further we have
conducted seminar on Mathematics and English for the students of grade 10 and
11 and impressive mentoring program for students as well as parents. Further we
were organized various team building activities and fun games for other
students of the school.

Library book donation
When our pilot visits we have noticed that the school has a small library
and it was not enough for students. Therefore the club has decided to donate
more than 1000 library books for
the school library. The books were represented several categories, namely
Subject Related Books, Master guides(past paper books), Novels, Sinhala &
English story books for children , Biographies, Literature books and
Dictionaries(Sinhala, Tamil, English).

We have distributed Stationery for all
students and list of items was donated
as follows.

Donation of Laboratory Equipments
As the request of principal we have donated equipments for the
laboratory too. Even though they have lot of deficiencies we could donate
Circuit Boards, Wires, LED Bulbs, Batteries, Magnets, Thermo Meter and Multi
Meter as our capability.

Donation of Sports Equipments
Further we have donated sports items which were two Volley Balls,
five Chess Boards, two Badminton Rackets and dozens of tennis ball for
improving the student’s sports skills.

Mendinig the dancing room floor.
As we have seen during the pilot visit we have realize the
requirement of mending the dancing room floor. Due to that we have concreted
the floor by our club members with the assistance of a mason bass. We have used
five cement packets for complete the floor as
suitable.
06.
Seminars on Mathematics and English
With the better understanding of student’s level of knowledge
on Mathematics and English we have planned to conduct a seminar for grade 10
& 11 students. It was conducting as a revision session which focuses on
Ordinary Level Exam.
07.
Student mentoring program
We have done an impressive mentoring program for senior
students of the school to develop their life goals. The program consisted with
motivational videos and inspirational speeches that encourage making their own
dreams.
08.
Activities
We have arranged many team building activities and
fun games for grade 6 to 9 students and an art competition for primary
students.



09. Parent mentoring program
As the request of the staff we
have conducted a mentoring program for parents of the school students because
they have limited attitude towards higher education of their children.

After
two days of the mega project they had arranged a small function for us and
shear their true fillings with tears of their eyes. We had a nice time and made
a lifelong memory with them as well as successfully completed our very first educational
project with love & care, humanity, kindness and friendship. Finally we say
good bye to Badulla with the intention of another service project.
