A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. The journey of the Leo Club of University of Colombo began on 25th of June 2015 with twenty two members. The club set in motion with the generous guidance of Lion Dr. Sarath Wijechandra, the Chairman /Managing Director of Jul Travels (Pvt) Ltd, and with the sponsorship of Oruwala Lions Club. Currently Leo Club of University of Colombo has more than 100 members which representing several faculties of the University and the Club is providing a massive strength to the Leo District 306C1as one and only University level Leo club in district. The charter president of the club was Leo Nimesh Jayasinghe and the secretary was Leo Berney Wickramasinghe.
The club open to undergraduates from all faculties at the University of Colombo and the club provides a friendly environment for members to improve their leadership skills as a project organizer, team leader and procure the experience while learning how teamwork, cooperation and collaboration can bring exciting changes to community and the world. Further the club provides the opportunity to make friends and feel the rewards of community service.
Leo Club International is the youth movement of Lions Club International which is the largest service club organization of the world. Leos now constitute an international network of over 6,500 clubs in over 140 countries. Community service remains the cornerstone of the program, fostering a lifetime commitment to helping others. Like their Lion counterparts, Leo club members enjoy serving their neighbors and watching positive results unfold.
