“Upbeat Aspirations 2”
English is an important language to study as it is a universal language. There is a serious unemployment problem due to lack of English skills and competency among young workable crowd. With the globalization the world has interconnected in every aspect, and opened unmatched opportunities in every sphere, and the English language plays a vital role in this process. Therefore in Sri Lanka we need more ways to develop English language literacy of young crowd.
Project “Upbeat Aspirations” organized by Leo club of University of Colombo for the second consecutive year was initiated in 2017 with the intention of improving English Language skills of young crowd in Sri Lanka and to enhance their personality.
This year this valuable Career guidance project, Upbeat Aspirations 2 was held at Bauddha Mandiraya, Negambo on 10th of January. This mega service project benefits for 53 beneficiaries in the western province, with the contribution of Mr. Indika Navaratne.
As the initial step we had to contact a resource person to conduct the English Course. As we had done the previous project (Upbeat Aspirations 1) with the contribution of Mr. Indika Navaratne, we requested him to conduct the course this year also. He accepted our request. Then we had to select a place to conduct the English course. Selection of the place was done with the guidance of Mr. Indika Navaratne.
The date for the inauguration ceremony was selected considering the availability of the place. After discussing with Mr. IndikaNavaratne, 10th January was confirmed to conduct the inauguration ceremony.
Total fee of this course is Rs. 10,000 (Rs. 2500 per month) per student. From this amount we will be sponsoring Rs. 6,000 (Rs. 1500 per month). This amount will be provided for each student who enrolled for the course. Therefore we contacted some corporates requesting sponsorships for the project. Some of them agreed us to sponsor for the course for different months and for some students. So we directly contact them to Mr. Indika Navaratne. Payments will be directly made to the institute through Mr. Indika Navaratne by sponsors
We selected some students from the database received from the institute. Then we providedour letter head to the institute to send letters informing students about the course. Total postal cost of the letters which worth Rs.15,000 was afforded by the institute. IT department of the institute also requested to include about their IT course to our letter. And we accepted their request

Then we asked the students to fill the registration forms. 47 students were registered on that day. Furthermore 6 students had been registered in the following week. All together we had 53 students enrolled for the course. Then we gave students some time to ask any questions or further clarifications from us.
Then Leo Tharindu introduced Mr. Indika Navaratne to students and invited him to address students. Mr. Indika Navaratne thanked us for giving this opportunity and then he explained the benefits students got through this course.
