Abhimanaka Abhimuwa

“Abhimanaka Abhimuwa” was the first army welfare project conducted by the Leo Club of University of Colombo which was held on 27^th March 2017. Main intention of this project was to facilitate guardian heroes of the country in the name of the unmatched service rendered by them and give tribute to disabled soldiers from war and show our gratitude and respect towards them.

The project was implemented in “Ranawiru Sewana” army rehabilitation center which is situated in Ragama.  The main focus of “Abhimanaka Abhimuwa” was to donate around 110 sandals and serve some refreshments. And also our university musical crew was performing their talents.

Soldiers are guardian heroes of country. As an educated youth we have responsibility to show our gratitude and respect towards them. As a result we decided to conduct a project like Abhimanaka Abhimuwa. 

This project was commenced as an idea of our club president and he appointed a committee for this project.  Firstly chairperson visited to the army rehabilitation center and discussed about their needs and got permission to conduct this event. As their request we agreed to donate sandals. 

Mainly advertising activities were done using Facebook. Our objective of advertising was collect donation. As a result we got considerable financial donations and sponsorship to cover cost of the event. A day before the event we visited to the rehabilitation center and arranged everything those are essential for the event. All decorations were done by club members on that day.  

Main focus of our project was the donation of sandals for disabled soldiers and appreciate the priceless scarifies done by them. As their request we donate 110 pair of sandals. 48 soldiers were participated to the event and rest of the sandals was dispersed to the wards.

We were able to treat soldiers and every participant with some refreshments. We provided meal pack including sandwich, cake and milk packet. 

·        Musical show
Music adds value to our life. So that we arranged musical show in order to add a refreshing experience to soldiers’ monotonous life style along with the pleasure of mind. Our university musical crew together with IGNITE band performed impressive programme on that day. 

     Dancing

     Furthermore our club members entertained them with a wonderful dancing item and all the participants enjoyed it to the maximum. 

After the event we got opportunity to meet disabled soldiers who are in wards. Club members visit to the wards and they confabulation with soldiers. They exchanged their experiences during the war with us.  It’s a great chance to our life and all participants appreciated that. 

After this event disabled soldiers and other officers were very thankful for us and expressed their true feeling of happiness about the event. They very much appreciated entertainment programme which we were conducted. We had a nice time with them and it added lifelong memory to us. “Abhimnanaka Abhimuwa” was completed successfully because of the great effort passion and courage of everyone. After this event we decided to continue this project every year.

This is the first army welfare project which was organized Leo Club of University of Colombo. Because of that from the beginning to the end it was a great experience for us. Throughout the project we learnt how to build the team spirit, leadership and most importantly how social services enlighten someone’s life. It was great opportunity to respect our war heroes. Further we hope to continue this event every year.
